Working with other community groups, CareerCatchers (CC) provides individualized employment support and training to enhance self-esteem and ensure career stability and self-sufficiency. From 2007 until the August 2009, CC services were provided through Today’s Family. Since 1997 Today’s Family has been working with at-risk youth to prepare them with the life skills necessary for further education and employment. For the first ten years Today’s Family managed one or two relatively small grants each year, and stayed focused on youth-based programs.
By 2007, the Board became keenly aware that the cornerstone of this work ultimately lies with the families of these young people, and that to truly affect their lives they needed a stable, self-sufficient home environment. The first step in addressing the adult population occurred in the spring of 2007 when Today’s Family launched the CC program. Two experienced counselors/employment specialists, Ronnie Haber and Mariana (Mana) McNeill, created the CC program based on their experiences. The goal was to build a sustainable program, based on a professional, executive career coaching model.
The client base of CC has grown steadily since its inception. Our clients are referred by various partners and recently through client-referrals, individuals in the county who hear about our services and call for an appointment. In 2007 we met with 100 individuals and this year we hope to work with 250 clients.
